Ulster Federation of Rambling

The Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs is a charitable body (ref number 101199) and is the governing body for recreational walking in the North of Ireland. The Federation has around 35 member clubs, with over 2,000 members, whose interests encompass all forms of recreational walking ranging from energetic mountain trekking to casual rambling.

Mourne Mountain Marathon

Come and test your navigation and endurance skills every September, in the Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland. A competitive event for teams of two, who can enter one of four categories, covering between 35km and 55km over two days. There is also a one day score class. Camp overnight and be self-sufficient. Walkers to elite runners.

Mourne Mountain Rescue

The history of organised Mountain Rescue teams began on this island in 1962 when the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team was founded. The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team is made up entirely of volunteers who live close to the Mournes. Based at the foot of Slieve Donard in the coastal town of Newcastle, all operations and callouts are currently conducted from the PSNI Station.

Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association

The Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association (NIMRA) is the governing body for mountain running in Northern Ireland. Established to promote and develop the sport, NIMRA organizes a range of events, including the annual Northern Ireland Mountain Running Championship, which attracts both local and international athletes. The association is dedicated to encouraging participation at all levels, from beginners to elite runners, and focuses on fostering a strong community through training sessions, competitions, and social events. NIMRA also works closely with environmental organizations to ensure that mountain running is conducted sustainably, preserving the natural beauty of Northern Ireland's rugged landscapes.

Tracks & Trails

Join us on a journey along some of the most beautiful trails on the Island of Ireland. Tracks & Trails is about celebrating Ireland, celebrating our outdoors, and discovering what is on offer in abundance on trails all over this country. Each trail is challenging in its own way, but all of these walks follow established national waymarked trails.

Wicklow Mountains National Park

The National Park which covers much of upland Wicklow, contains an area of approximately 20,000 hectares (49,421 acres). This includes large areas of mountain blanket bogs, including the Lugnaquilla and Liffey Head Bog complexes and Glendalough Wood Nature Reserve. The National Park provides protection for the landscape and the wildlife, from rare orchids to the wild and beautiful Peregrine Falcon.
